Brombecks ran riot in Nottingham for the Tier 2 Cup Final against Olton & West Warwickshire, winning 4-0 in a dominant performance.
Before the game, the spirits were high with coaches Ben, Juan, and a special guest appearance from 1st XI player Rory Capper giving the boys the ultimate team talk beforehand, preparing them for the game. Warm-ups finished and toss won, Brombecks knew they had to start on the front foot. Ollie D knew just how, through an early short corner, rifled in the net. Massive goal. Olton couldn’t muster a response, and thanks to another Ollie D corner (and some outrageous team hockey), the boys were 2-0 up going into the second half. A perfect first half that Brombecks could have only dreamt of, though Ben once again found himself sweating on the sideline despite the total control.
The second half began, and Olton decided to turn up. Some slick skills from their midfield caused some worry, causing Ollie A to make a couple of much needed saves to keep the clean sheet. Thankfully, the boys stepped on again, creating chance after chance, through some unreal hockey. The third eventually came, an Ed W corner placing it in the bottom left, giving the keeper no chance. The umpires thought it was someone’s birthday and handed out cards to both teams midway through the second half, with Olton going down to 9 at two separate points during the game. Ed W and Rohan B took our cards unfortunately. Despite this minor setback, the boys dug deep and defended with their lives, eventually Noah G caught the Olton backline lacking and stole the ball finding Teo H for the 4th with a composed finish. Brombecks saw out the game brilliantly, not letting Olton near their goal, even though the oppo played 4 forwards for the final 15 minutes of the game. All the boys had outstanding performances, from Ollie A (who was voted MoM by the boys afterwards) to our forwards who terrorised the Olton backline the entire game.
Captain Jamie H lifted the trophy, crowning Bromley and Beckenham as the Tier 2 National Champions. Massive thanks to all the parents and supporters who not only made the journey to Nottingham but all over the country, from Norwich, to Manchester.
