2 - 2 draw

Despite winning the home game 1- 0 we know that Canterbury is a tough place to go, even though they’d played a rearranged game in mid-week, we expected a tussle, and the day duly delivered.
Those of us that grew up on grass or the early astros were ready for the bounce and lack of pace in the pitch, a blessing for some of us.

After we’d discussed the pros and cons of the away kit – small necks, good fit on the body, guns on show and the delights of finding matching socks, we wandered out for the very rarely seen, full warmup on the pitch.

We were far too reactive in the opening minutes allowing Canterbury a few speculative shots and it was against the run of play when a long ball found Zoe in the D to twist away from her defender and score the opening goal. Canterbury won a range of corners in the first half, with both Liz and Lou pulling saves off the line, before we conceded minutes before the break.

At half time coach Ready shared strategy with her Canterbury counter part (well known to us as the sister of one of our players, and ahead of her sister on appearances at Brombeck games this season).
We were much more proactive in the second half and battled hard, Florence racing on to a poor defensive pass for a one on one with the keeper and maintaining her composure to retake the lead.
However from there the offensive attack from Canterbury continued, with MOM Ruby making multiple saves and Jill taking a heavy blow. We concede the second goal with seconds left for a disappointing end to a competitive match.

MOM: Ruby
Next week: Holcombe Away
