A strong performance from the U16 development team to kick-start their season

After a number of cancellations, the U16 boys development team had waited some time for their first match of 22/23 but started in stellar fashion, earning a convincing 4-0 win against a young Wayfarers side at Dulwich College Sports Centre. Two goals in the first half from Luke S and Sandy, followed by two more in the second half courtesy of Lewis and Finlay. The scoreline did not lie as the boys dominated the match, with James a driving force down the left, Luke P and Harry providing a solid centre of defence, and Luke S working hard up front.

The scoreline could have been even better had one of the 10+ short corners that were won been converted. But Luke P’s shots were often repelled by a Wayfarers goalkeeper who was their man of the match, making great saves from a number of open-play shots as well. After initial pressure from the home team BromBeck started to get on top and broke the deadlock through Luke S on the quarter-hour after good work from Jonah down the right. Seven minutes later Sandy’s neat close-range finish doubled the lead, with the ball again coming into the D from the right.

Alex still had the occasional work to do in the BromBeck goal, apart from marshalling his defence, but dealt with Wayfarers’ rare shots with aplomb. Lewis made it 3-0 midway through the second half and only the Wayfarers’ ‘keeper’s heroics prevented BromBecks from a fourth goal, Som, Finlay and James among the players denied. The goal eventually came when Finlay followed up a save to finish shortly before the end.

A comfortable win and a great start to the season but a bigger test lies in wait next week with the visit of Spencer, who beat Wayfarers by a much wider margin earlier in the season.
