The Jonesy Takeover: If it doesn’t rain it pours!

The Mighty 2s arrived at fortress Langley for their first home fixture of the season. All arrived on time, not including Jas of course, but surely by now that doesn’t count. Amelia was quick to pick on my captaining debut by insisting it would be far better all round that I speak to the T.Wells captain and see if they would be happy to accept a draw, abandon a very wet match, head back to the club and have early teas and drinks. I took some serious time considering this but then thought ‘what would Em G do’ and realised she would not be up for such rule breaking!
Friz sat us down early in a straight single file line like one of her classes at school and broke down the tactics for the game. I on the other hand was quick to find the oppo’s captain and find out what a captain actually has to do. This was despite extremely clear and concise instructions that I had received form Em G in the week.

The match started in the rain and BromBecks started well. The intensity could not be faulted and we battled hard but eventually conceded a goal after a phase of T.Wells pressure, although the legality of the goal could be questioned – please speak to Zoe if you have any queries over this. Despite some hustle and bustle through the midfield, mainly on Jas, and some opportunities for us to equalise the first half finished 1-0.
A quick team talk from a very wet Friz and we headed out for the second half. Things got a little more intense in the second half and after Jas received a few further bumps as she twisted and turned through midfield she had a little chat with the umpire. In return the umpire had a little chat with Jas – but no cards were issued for either side. A few more opportunities up front but entry into the circle was a little lacking as we couldn’t get through the T.Wells defence. Determined to battle on and a few good runs saw us get closer to an equaliser but unfortunately it was T.Wells who were able to apply more pressure and as a result took a 2-0 lead. In Jas’ continued fight through midfield she spent much of the second half on the floor and Zoe spent much of it having a ‘word’ with the umpires. The rest of us were just grateful that with only 12 players we didn’t have to be subbed too often and stand on the side lines in the rain. Thank you to those who battled the weather to support us and Friz for coaching us in such horrible conditions.

So the Jonesy Takeover didn’t go as planned and the match finished a 2-0 loss. Although another loss for the ladies 2s we continue to improve each week. Next week is the one!!!!

Captaining the ladies 2s is an absolute pleasure but I am thanking my luck stars that Em G is back next week! I will no longer have to spend my Saturdays thinking ‘what would Em G do?’ So for now Captain Jonesy is signing out……until next time!

PoM: Ali (2 weeks in a row)
DoD: Jas (spending too much time of the floor and having a chat with the umpire)
