Dancing our way to a point!

The team arrived in Erith slightly concerned that it was all a dream and they had actually been entered into a junior dance competition. Friz made a quick exit from the changing room to avoid her call up and Rids started to prepare her dance moves in her quest to become the U12 dance champion!

Warmed up and ready to go captain G was quick to scare the cr*p out the team when she announced that the umpire had instructed her that if any player wasn’t 5 from a free-hit then a straight red card would be given!

Regardless the mighty 2s started strong and looked the better side. We were quick to penetrate the oppo’s D and there a few near misses. In true 2s style we wanted to keep the excitement of the game alive and so were quick to provide BBHC with an opportunity to score on the break. They took the opportunity and early in the first half we saw our initial pressure turned into a 1-0 deficit. Heads didn’t go down as we recognised our strong start; it was still early in the game. We continued to apply pressure and some linking play down the left-hand side left Jonesy at the top of the D with the ball on her stick, pretty much her worst nightmare! A shout from Ruby on the base line saw a speedy push pass towards the call but with no need for a deflection the ball ended up neatly in the left-hand corner…GOAL!!! Jonesy’s first goal in well no one can actually remember the last time she scored were quickly followed by comments from Liz as to whether it was a shot or pass, shot of course!!!

We continued to play the better hockey in the first half. Kepp showed her twirling skills as she pushed up the pitch leaving the defenders in her mist but it was eventually the pressure from Gemma, after a standard ‘go gadget’ arm reach that led to even more standard Gemma smash at goal………GOAL!!! The mighty 2s were 2-1 up and went in half time on a high.

The second half was a positive start and we felt in control but somehow once again allowed BBHC back into the game and their clinical finishing saw us back to where we started and level pegging at 2-2. Still early in the second half we continued to push hard and the whole team battled to win tackles and move the ball forward with Nina showing her usual silky skills to take on the defence. On numerous occasions we came close to that third goal and earned ourselves a few penalty corners along the way. However, BBHC also kept the pressure on and at times we struggled to link our passes and ultimately gave away too many unforced errors.

The game finished 2-2 and on the days performance it was a fair result, although certainly a match the team should look to bag 3 points from on the return fixture at fortess Langley. A hard thought game by everyone and special thanks to Coach Friz for standing out in the cold with us. One more game to go this side of Christmas and next week the mighty 2s return to fortress Langley to host Canterbury before they head to the club for a well-earned Christmas social and to dance their way into the evening !

PoM – Grace Johnson (super performance in defence and almost a goal ?)

DoD – Jas – general space cadet, although credit should be given to Jas for remembering to put her face guard behind the goal for the first time this season.
