Champions of Tier 1B: A Dramatic Finals Day for BromBecks BU14s

Ian Dinwiddy1 Jul - 08:20

High drama, resilience, and clinical finishing

It was a day of high drama, resilience, and clinical finishing as the BromBecks U14A squad secured the Tier 1B title in a thrilling finals day campaign.

Match 1: The Semi-Final Thriller vs. Hampstead & Westminster

The day began with a high-stakes clash against Hampstead & Westminster (H&W), characterised by end-to-end action that felt more like a basketball game than a traditional hockey match.

BromBecks opened with intent, settling their nerves early when Leo fired a stunning drag flick into the side netting, leaving the H&W keeper no chance. While H&W clawed their way back to 1-1 with a scrappy goal, Zach reclaimed the lead for BromBecks, picking up the ball in central midfield and embarking on a solo run from the halfway line, before flicking it home into the top corner.

Entering the second half with a 2-1 lead, BromBecks suffered a sluggish restart. H&W capitalised quickly, leveling the scores before snatching a third to take a 3-2 lead. Facing a potential exit, the team showed incredible character; Beau displayed the instincts of a natural goal poacher to equalise, shifting the momentum back in BromBecks' favour.

In a chaotic finale, with the game hanging in the balance, Zach tapped home during a scramble in the H&W 'D' to seal a hard-fought 4-3 victory and book a spot in the final against Eastcote.

Match 2: The Title Decider vs. Eastcote

Fresh from their semi-final comeback, BromBecks took on Eastcote with a clear sense of confidence.

William provided the perfect start, finding the back post to convert a brilliant setup from Rhean. However, the early goal seemed to induce a lapse in concentration, as the side momentarily lost their rhythm and composure, allowing Southgate to equalise through a slick team move created by their star player.

Whatever was said in the half-time huddle clearly resonated. Emerging with renewed focus, BromBecks took complete control of the second half. Joe restored the lead with a clinical finish to make it 2-1, before Zach added a final goal to secure a 3-1 win.

Final Results
Semi-Final: BromBecks 4–3 Hampstead & Westminster
Final: BromBecks 3–1 Eastcote

It was a deserved conclusion to a long season for the U14A squad, who showed the grit of true champions to lift the Tier 1B trophy. Congratulations to the team on a fantastic achievement!
