It seems we’ve started to attract a range of animals to our training sessions, a fox leaving an unwelcome gift in the goal and the many bats circling the training sessions. Though none of them were able to unravel the mystery of why the orange team lost winning Wednesday – some interesting maths being used I assume.
Despite these distractions the match programme quiz showed what V has learnt in the last five years in the UK and that Valu’s 3 years isn’t enough time to learn the nuances of regional food and dialogue or understand what animals the Queen owns. Neither of them seems to appreciate the typical English need to BBQ in the winter, why we don’t talk to strangers on the tube or why anyone would eat something called scraps.
On the pitch we stared strongly without finding the break through and this frustration led us to concede a sloppy goal, before Sarah evaded the sniper that was following her last week, managed to stay upright and tuck a deflection in from the red zone.
An easy DOD vote this week when Eimi forgot her shinpads and had to borrow from the 3s game before us, though she needed no protection to score from close range just after half time. However, we then concede another poor goal for a tense 2-2 score with 25 minutes left.
One of the great things about having a good age range across the team is that we get support both from the children and parents of players. Last week several of the parents claimed the credit for the final quarter goals as they arrived just in time to witness them. This week we called them in earlier to give us a more relaxed second half.
With Mariana and V scoring within 4 minutes of each other to bring the score to 4-2, we then closed out the 4th quarter to take us to 2nd place in the league.
