A Spook-tacular result

Four games into the season and only 3 points on the board. BromBecks 2s set their sights high as they hosted Gore Court 1s on home turf at fortress Langley, just 2 points below Gore Court in the table this felt like a must win game to get the side back on track.
Following a solid week of training plus welcoming back Gemma Nurse into the side there was a real sense of anticipation around today’s game. The match beforehand offered lots of inspiration with our first team’s superb performance and result against Canterbury. However, a slightly delayed finish to the 1st team game also resulted in 3 warm-ups, all led by Natty, at Emma Gs request. It was also at Emma Gs request that the final warm up was stopped early so that we could all get our breath back before the game commenced, and probably to allow Emma to have her final pre-match toilet visit. After some pre-match nerves and a detailed team chat led by our dynamic duo coaching team of Juan and Friz (please send in your suggested names for our dynamic duo) the 2s set out in their quest for 3 points!

The intensity was high from the start and we were quick to exploit Gore Court with numerous circle entries but this was to no outcome with plenty of near misses and opportunities not quite converted. The press served us well and we were able to dominate the first half with plenty of pressure and possession. On her return to the side Gemma was quick to make her mark and stole the ball from the Gore Court centre back, finding herself at the top of the D with just the keeper to beat. There was always only going to be one outcome and BOOM…..a goal for Gemma and the Mighty 2s were 1-0 up!!!!!

A quick team talk from the coaching team and back out we went with even more intent to put the game away. It was a feisty match from both sides but a real positive to see everyone playing with a high intensity. Ruby had a short visit to the sin bin for a little dissent; a bit harsh, and Juan was close to joining her after a short telling off from the umpire. Early on in the half our continued pressure was quickly rewarded with 2 successive goals from an Emma G special during a short corner, followed by Burr slipping the ball neatly into the back of the net. 3-0 up and the pace continued with both sides digging their heels in. Gore Court certainly didn’t give up and put in a good fight pushing the BromBecks 2s to the final whistle. But on home turf today was a BromBeck day and our second win of the season sees us push up the table to 8th place. With so much further to go in the league this is surely just the beginning of good things to come for the side.

A great game all round but the overwhelming votes for PoM and DoD go to……

PoM – Gemma
DoD – Ruby – green card
