Boys push hard for a winner

The U16 Boys drew against local rivals Sevenoaks in a highly entertaining encounter at Langley Park Boys School on Sunday. The Boys were unlucky not to take all 3 points in a came of fluctuating fortunes for the two sides.

With Bromley and Beckenham understrength, reinforcements were made to Brendan Scott and Femi Coombes to add some much needed support to the team, and both put in excellent performances.

Brombecks started brightly with Brandon Goatley, Dan Hamilton and Gabe Binns looking to form a new partnership in midfield. The early good work was undone following some sustained Sevenoaks pressure when the boys fell behind to a close range effort. Not helped by Liam O'Leary's injury.

Following this - the momentum changed and some fine work from the forwards pulling the score back to 1-1 with Sacha Jennings continuing his excellent form up front with a goal from close in. This was followed when Gabe Binns - tracked and tackled the opposition centre half outside the 25 - the proceeded to beat the last defender before a quality finish saw the boys take the lead.

The lead lasted to half time when the boys came out and pushed again. With the team ticking well, the boys pushed hard for another goal. Unfortunately following a controversial penalty corner, the ball deflect onto Brandon on the goal line and a penalty corner was turned to a penalty stroke and duly converted to level the scores.

Brombecks then pushed forward again and with Fin Hall providing superb right hand side play and Dan Hamilton again anchoring the midfield and providing end to end breaks - showing both facets of his game, the boys created several chanced to take the lead before Brandon Goatley finally succumbed to another injury and the midfield balance once again swayed to Sevenoaks.

A fiery second period was not helped by a temporary suspension for Dan, but the team held out to see through for the draw.

A fantastic performance from the boys and one that might just have got away on the day. The self belief in the squad is growing and with several players to come back in, and hopefully a fully fit Brandon Goatley - the return match looks to be set up nicely.
