After a long wait to play together, the performance team played Old Cranleighan today at home. There was a big supporting crowd gathered (a mixture of home and away fans) and Brombecks were getting cheered on the side by many supporting parents (& German exchanges in Mia`s case!)
We started the game off strong, with a lovely goal occurring within 2 minutes of first push back, coming from a short corner. The ball was injected out to the left and slipped right across the D to the back post for a nice deflection. This put us on the front foot and the teams moral and confidence increased.
However, after this goal the game started to get very slow and scrappy, with both teams evidently starting to tire but wanting to win, and with a few injuries on our side the girls seemed cautious.
Despite of this we were able to stay in the game, with Maria being challenged and making some incredible saves (including a few sliding ones), and our defence being able to clear the ball out wide, enabling us to create overloading counter attacks, with midfields and forwards, such as Ellie, Emily, Nina and Flo being able to attack with speed. This is how Emily scored a lovely individual goal by sprinting up the pitch, eliminating around 4 players and making the keeper move , going around her and being able to push it into the back of the net.
Overall the team played well and we managed to secure the win, but with a few things to take into training and work on, we look towards the next few games, and hopefully the tier 2 finals, as we are currently top of the league and have a huge goal difference of 22!
